Bedelands is home to the best wildflower meadow in West Sussex – and that’s official!
In June 2013 Mid Sussex District Council, the Friends of Burgess Hill Green Circle Network and the High Weald Landscape Trust were delighted to learn that Valebridge Common Field was chosen as the Coronation Meadow for West Sussex.
This proves that there is far more to Bedelands than an open space where you can stroll, play or walk the dog. It’s an important local resource to be treasured by one and all.
(See www.coronationmeadows.org.uk then launch the meadows map and click on Sussex – West for our entry.)
Seed is collected annually to propagate new, similar meadows. The field is then mown in late summer and horses belonging to a Bedelands neighbour graze there during early winter.
